Transient found a home on Main Street
Michele Turner, the owner of the Main Street institution, would charge her a buck or two so as not to offend her. They'd talk a bit, maybe about the old days in New York, maybe about Mary's son or daughter. Mary's great fear was men the ones in her head were always trying to get at her or her cart. But she did fall for a surfer boy once. "You know, she wasn't that crazy over men, but she had a crush on my one son Ryan because he used to call her Maria," Turner said. "She'd get a red face whenever people asked her if she had a crush on him." Anna Wright, a hair stylist who can pair pinstripe shorts with vintage cowboy boots and pull it off, enjoyed Mary's compliments and her interest in fashion. She also liked having an extra set of eyes on the salon.
MY CHRISTMAS STORY
As soon as you got comfortable enough to hang up your clothes, or to sit at the breakfast table, you were gone. Lillian sheltered Jacob for these reasons, seeking out the best candidates possible for the boy. Two days before the Petersons were to take Jacob home, Mrs. Peterson got a call from the doctor. Her cries of rejoice were heard throughout the house. Anne immediately called Lillian Hoback. Lillan was surprised to hear the tearful Mrs. Peterson on the other end of the phone. Jacob's case worker was visibly shaken when she hung up the receiver. With tears in her eyes she glanced at the Christmas tree, Mrs. Peterson's words resounding in her ear, "Miss Hoback, isn’t it wonderful? Now Jacob will have a little brother or sister!" Obama v. Clinton
I want what Castro gave the people of Cuba, free health care and free college for everyone. I want a President that will hold us together when NAFTA costs us all our jobs. Don't worry, without jobs we can't buy. If we don't buy, the Whirlpools of the world will be forced to come back to America...but it will be tough till they do. We need this team! Bush is black and white, we're flexible, us Democrats can have it all. Don't miss the opportunity to make real change by sending a woman and a black man to the White House. Crash 2 glass ceilings for the price of one, give me what I want and give the Obama supporters what they want too. Let's have our cake and eat it too and have Bill riding shotgun to boot. Clinton/Obama '08! .
Rob Zaleski: UW team aims to aid New Orleans bayou
Kate Tillery Danzer had been bracing for the worst. She had seen TV footage in August 2005 of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina. She read numerous accounts of the horrifying aftermath and the shockingly inept response of FEMA and other government agencies. And she had talked to her colleagues on the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Water Resources Management team who'd already begun work on a project to determine the feasibility of restoring Bayou Bienvenue, a cypress swamp next to the poor Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans, which had been particularly hard hit. But when the 33-year-old UW grad student was given a tour of the neighborhood upon arriving in New Orleans last June -- nearly two years after the worst natural disaster in U.S. history -- she was shaken to the core.
