Amtrak lowers estimate for Chicago-Q.C. line

An Amtrak report released this week gives casino operators hope that that a proposed passenger-train route between Chicago and the Quad Cities could carry 111,000 riders a year.

Many of those riders could be Chicago gamblers heading to casinos along the Mississippi River, said Renk, vice president for sales and marketing at the Jumer's Casino in Rock Island.

"We're very much delighted," Renk said Tuesday. "What this would do is put us in a good position to expose Chicagoland to what the Quad Cities have to offer."

There's also good news for longtime advocates of a Chicago-Quad Cities line who feared the project might be too pricey.

The upbeat study estimates costs of upgrading existing track for passenger-train use at between $14 million and $23 million lower than earlier estimates of around $30 million.

K.J. gets overlooked, but shouldn't | Braves

I noticed that K.J was money against the mets early in the season, If he puts up similiar numbers again this year I will definitely have to define him as one of the most underrated offensive second basemen in the league…

I've been up on the phillies forum during the last 2 weeks, and they are gunning for Santana and the mets, with the feeling of the braves as an afterthought, It remind's of 2001 wher we were the serious underdogs…Hopefully we'll "creep on ah comeup"

Go Braves…!

Astronaut to throw boomerang in space

Astronaut Takao Doi, 53, is set to travel on a US shuttle in March to the International Space Station, where he will be in charge of construction of a Japanese scientific testing room.

It is believed gravity is needed for a boomerang to fly back to the throwing spot, but no one has tried in zero gravity.

"Mr Doi said he will personally carry a paper boomerang for the upcoming mission and we presume he will try it when he has spare time,'' said an official of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.

Doi reportedly decided on boomerang tests after he received a request from Yasuhiro Togai, a world boomerang champion from the western Japanese metropolis of Osaka.

Doi later underwent training from the world champion on how to throw it, media reports said.
