| Megson tackles fans head on
Bolton Wanderers Supporters Association chairman Tony Pearson said "the jury is out" on Megson but called on fellow fans to give the former West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City and Nottingham Forest manager time to get things right. "I don't know whether he has got the kind of profile we were hoping a manager would have. We have to accept it. Somebody has to take charge of the team." Mr Pearson said the key to the club's success in the past was stability and that Megson had a clean slate because he was not associated with the Allardyce regime. He added: "When Sam Allardyce arrived from Notts County as a manager, his credentials were not that developed at that point and look what he achieved. "I don't think it's fair to totally write Megson off this early in his career.
Seattle's soothing baseball voice headed to Cooperstown
I'm delighted that Dave Niehaus was named this year's recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award, because this is as close as I'll come to having a close relative enter the Hall of Fame. Like everyone in the Northwest, I consider Niehaus a member of the family. He's been in my parents' home so many nights, he should pay rent, and he rides with me in my car so often, I should be able to use the carpool lane. .

The great L.A. Times scribe Jim Murray once said, "Spring is the time of year when the ground thaws, trees bud, the income tax falls due — and everybody wins the pennant." And so it is that your correspondent, memorably dubbed as the faux "crusading everyman" by one of our angrier blog participants, has already done his taxes, an annual end-of-January ritual before heading to spring training and being immersed in a six-week world where normal life is put on hold and baseball takes precedence over all else. We'll be headed down Wednesday, a day before pitchers and catchers are officially required to report. Need some time to stock the fridge of the rental house and get a lay of the land in our new neighborhood, plus stop by the ballpark at Dark Star to see how many eager Braves arrived early.
