| How Evansville did its part to win World War II
World War II may have been the biggest thing ever to hit Evansville. Hundreds of troops from Camp Breckenridge, Ky., — now the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center — and Fort Campbell, Ky., came to the city every weekend. Thousands worked on landing ship tanks (LSTs) on 45 acres of land off Ohio Street that had been riverfront shacks and warehouses. Navy crews in town waited to board the finished product. Factories geared up for the war effort in the months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Republic Aviation built P-47 planes. The Chrysler plant turned out bullets. The Briggs plant manufactured aircraft wings. The hours were long and weekend work was common, but patriotism trumped complaining. A USO Club was formed at the Old Chicago & Eastern Illinois depot that featured a large dance floor, a lounge and dormitory space.

Police officer shoots dog after being attacked in Norfolk
I side with the cop on this one, he was protecting his life. A dog is a dog. Yes, I have a dog (who usually stays inside) but if it was attacking a cop I would rather see the cop alive than the dog. And for the people who don't like cops, you are free to move out of the country to a place where the laws suit you better. .
Something besides contract negotiations
He gets a 2 year deal at a reasonable price, $2.5m and if he can prove he can stay healthy and focused for a couple seasons, then payday, here he comes. Good to hear about Enstrom, I was worried about him. He's starting to get knocked around too much. We need 2 pts in Buffablow tonight.
